The crescent moon will mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan in various parts of the Americas. Visible to the naked eye in many regions, the minimum age of the lunar crescent will be 15 hours and 3 minutes, becoming visible in just 29 minutes. Factors like the moon's angle to the sun and its height above the horizon can influence its visibility.
In specific locations such as Abu Dhabi and Makkah, the moon will set shortly after sunset on the expected sighting day. In Abu Dhabi, the moon will set 31 minutes after sunset, being 14 hours and 37 minutes old, while in Makkah, it will set 33 minutes after sunset, with an age of 15 hours and 27 minutes, allowing telescope visibility in both cities.
The International Astronomy Centre has forecasted that many Islamic countries would likely commence Ramadan on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Their statement, as reported by WAM, indicates that the lunar crescent signaling the commencement of Ramadan will be observed on Friday, February 28, 2025. Moreover, regions such as Western Asia, most of Africa, and southern Europe are expected to witness the crescent moon through telescopes, signifying the start of Ramadan.
