New Interactive Art Space Team Lab Phenomena Opens in Abu Dhabi

Team Lab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is a multi-sensory art project spanning 17,000 square meters on Saadiyat Island. It aims to create spaces that stimulate curiosity, foster connection, and encourage creativity. The project features unprecedented installations that blend art and technology, seeking to inspire visitors' imagination and creativity by encouraging interaction with their environment.

Two new works, "Suns without Blocks and Shaded Suns" and "Massive Rocks in the Root Garden," offer visitors new immersive experiences that redefine the relationship between perception, environment, and imagination.

The work "Suns without Blocks and Shaded Suns" can be described as an interactive perceptual sculpture. It invites visitors to interact with glowing, luminous spheres, creating a dynamic environment around them that continuously changes, erasing the boundaries between light and darkness. These spaces guide visitors through a series of interconnected discovery stations where nature, structure, and perception converge in an experience that redefines the concept of art and its potential.

Meanwhile, "Massive Rocks in the Root Garden" tells a story about the vitality and coexistence of nature. It crafts a visual dialogue that highlights life's capacity for adaptation and flourishing in unexpected places. The work embodies research showing that forests are connected by a network of fungal root systems, allowing trees to recognize each other and share nutrients. The artwork appears to defy gravity, with roots growing in unusual directions, extending from the upper floor to the recently opened lower floor where the roots of surrounding trees hang freely in the air, as if suspended between two worlds, thriving in an environment that enables their continued growth.

Both new works embody the concept of "living art" at the core of Team Lab Phenomena Abu Dhabi. Each visit offers a renewed experience, with the artworks evolving in real-time, fluidly interacting with the presence of visitors and elements of the environment to form a pulsating, moving, and changing experience that transcends the traditional frameworks of art.

Takashi Kudo, Director of Communications at Team Lab Phenomena Abu Dhabi, stated that the project is developing new experiences that grant visitors spaces to stimulate curiosity and enhance feelings of connection and creativity. He mentioned that the introduction of the two new works reflects the project's ongoing commitment to innovative methods that reshape the role of art and its ability to engage the senses and open broader paths for exploration.

He expressed confidence that these additions will contribute to expanding the scope of interactive art, enabling visitors to delve into renewed worlds that leave a clear mark on the artistic experience.

The artworks in Team Lab Phenomena Abu Dhabi offer a continuously renewed artistic experience, specifically designed for Abu Dhabi. The works fall under the concept of "environmental phenomena" developed by Team Lab based on an extensive research and experimental trajectory. The artworks in Team Lab Phenomena do not exist as independent entities in themselves; rather, they are a product of the surrounding environment that generates various phenomena, leading to the emergence of artworks as phenomena that arise from the environment.
