Abu Dhabi's Natural History Museum Kicks Off 'Nature Month'

Throughout April, the Natural History Museum, located on Saadiyat Island's cultural district in Abu Dhabi, hosts a rich program for 'Nature Month'. The event features interactive workshops, family activities, inspiring talks, short guided tours, mindfulness sessions, and more, offering opportunities to learn, connect, and return time and again over the month. The museum invites visitors of all ages to discover the wonders of our planet and participate in the events held throughout the month. One of the highlights is the 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year' exhibition in its 61st edition, showcasing a stunning collection of award-winning photographs that document the beauty, diversity, and fragility of the natural world. The exhibition features works from one of the world's most prestigious nature photography competitions, presenting a powerful visual narrative that highlights extraordinary moments in wildlife life while raising awareness for environmental conservation challenges. The 'Museum Mothers' program is a community initiative designed for mothers and children aged zero to five, providing a space for connection, learning, and exploring the museum together. Through guided activities and fun family experiences, the program offers opportunities to engage with science, culture, and the natural world, fostering curiosity in young children and building a supportive community for parents. Activities include 'Dino Stomp', where children move and play while learning about prehistoric creatures; 'Sun Printing', a creative activity that introduces them to natural patterns and sunlight; and 'Plant Magic', an interactive experience to explore plants and their natural properties. The Natural History Museum transforms into a full sensory celebration of our planet, inviting visitors of all ages to explore, connect, and take positive steps for the Earth. Guests can participate in the 'Wishing Tree for the Earth' and the 'Group Word Wall' to share their ideas and commitments, fostering a spirit of shared responsibility. 'Science Cafe' offers a series of monthly public talks where museum curators and experts share insights into the concepts, discoveries, and fascinating research on display. In a friendly, cafe-style atmosphere, the program provides an interactive space for direct engagement with specialists, exploring the ideas behind the exhibits, and engaging in open discussions that bring science closer to daily life and give it an inspiring dimension for all. The 'Pink Moon Sound Bath' experience offers a distinctive evening of meditation and immersive sound, coinciding with the full moon. These experiences provide moments for reflection, well-being, and connection, affirming the Natural History Museum in Abu Dhabi's role as a space that merges intellectual curiosity with learning. The 'City Nature Challenge' event blends science and storytelling, while the 'Light Catching' activity gives visitors a chance to observe nocturnal insects using real scientific techniques to explore biodiversity. In parallel, the 'Community Storytelling' session provides a platform where senior citizens share personal experiences related to the desert and sea in an intergenerational dialogue that links cultural heritage with environmental awareness. Together, these activities create a unique experience that combines discovery, learning, and community bonding. After-school workshops provide an interactive science experience for children of various age groups through hands-on activities and fun exploration. Participants can take on the 'Food Web Challenge', create their own sea creatures in 'Wire Fish - Marine Life in the UAE', discover how animals adapt to their environment in the 'Camouflage Challenge', match environmental challenges with animal adaptations in 'Surviving in the Desert', or explore nature through touch in the 'Touch Challenge: Discover Nature's Secrets'. 'Storytime' sessions invite families to pause their daily routine and sit together to listen to stories that connect nature and the night sky. Stories are presented in both Arabic and English to suit all family members. 'Plant Magic' is an interactive experience to learn about plants and nature, where children discover local and introduced plants in the UAE and learn how roots, leaves, and bark adapt to desert life. This experience helps build early scientific thinking through touch and direct observation.
