Abu Dhabi City Municipality has initiated a field awareness campaign focused on promoting the highest standards of animal care among pet shop owners and workers. The campaign, executed by the Animal Welfare Department, involved inspectors conducting visits to numerous pet shops in the city.
Inspectors emphasized the significance of maintaining healthy conditions for animals and birds in pet shops, highlighting the importance of compassion and proper care beyond just being a commodity for sale. During these visits, a thorough assessment of the animals' health, the shop environment, and the provision of veterinary care was carried out.
The inspectors also reiterated to pet shop operators their obligations under the UAE's Animal Welfare Law and associated regulations. The key objective of the campaign is to advocate for every animal to have the opportunity for a life that is both healthy and happy.
In a statement regarding the campaign, a spokesperson from Abu Dhabi City Municipality said, "Our aim is to raise awareness about the welfare of animals in pet shops and ensure that these establishments adhere to the highest standards of care. We believe that by working together with pet shop owners and workers, we can create a better environment for the animals and promote responsible pet ownership in the community."
