
The Muslim Council of Elders, led by His Eminence Prof. Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, has highlighted the significance of the International Day of Human Fraternity as a celebration of universal human values. The Council underlined the idea that all individuals are part of a single global family, bound together by common principles.
The Council stressed the necessity for joint endeavors in promoting dialogue, tolerance, coexistence, peace, and human fraternity among individuals from various cultural and social backgrounds. In a statement marking the occasion, the Council commemorated the sixth anniversary of the signing of the Document on Human Fraternity on 4th February, considering it a pivotal agreement in contemporary history promoting human solidarity.
The Document on Human Fraternity has since its signing sparked a global movement focused on spreading and reinforcing the values of love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. The United Nations General Assembly recognized the importance of this document by unanimously declaring 4th February as the International Day of Human Fraternity on 22nd December 2020, reflecting the profound humanitarian principles enshrined in it.
Numerous countries, universities, and academic institutions across the globe have incorporated the teachings of the document into their educational systems, with some nations even adopting it as part of their national charter. On the International Day of Human Fraternity, the Muslim Council of Elders stressed the necessity of upholding the values of human fraternity and peaceful coexistence, advocating for joint efforts in promoting goodness, compassion, and peace among all individuals.
The Council reaffirmed the collective responsibility of nurturing younger generations in these values, aiming to instill a sense of responsibility and commitment to advocating for peace and human fraternity. It reiterated the belief that all individuals, irrespective of their background, are descendants of Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) and thus share a common destiny. Notably, the historic Document on Human Fraternity was signed in Abu Dhabi by Prof. Dr. Al-Tayeb and His Holiness Pope Francis, the Head of the Catholic Church.
