The 'Manar Abu Dhabi' exhibition, the main hub of the 'Abu Dhabi for Public Art' initiative launched by the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, returns for its second edition to showcase its installations and light-based artworks for the first time in the city of Al Ain.
Titled 'Your Guide to the Star Suhail', 'Manar Abu Dhabi', under the artistic direction of Kai Hoeri and curated by Alia Zaalootah, Munira Al Sayegh, and Maryam Al Shamsi, highlights the works of six artists from the UAE and the world. Their light-based artworks illuminate the cultural sites of Al Ain, a UNESCO World Heritage site, continuing the exhibition's mission to celebrate the emirate of Abu Dhabi as a center for cultural innovation and contemporary public art. It achieves this by blending creativity, heritage, nature, and technology to inspire both the community and visitors.
Thousands of visitors enjoyed immersive and striking experiences during the opening, which coincided with the launch of the Traditional Handicrafts Festival in Al Ain. Artists Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, Khaled Al Shaafar, Mitha Hammad, Abdullah Al Mulla, Ammar Al Attar, and Christian Brinkmann presented stunning light art. These works took the audience on a sensory journey blending light, sound, and landscapes, reflecting Abu Dhabi's growing status as a global platform for exchanging creativity and innovation in public art.
