Dubai Achieves Record Low Electricity Outage Time

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has achieved the world's lowest electricity outage duration at just 0.94 minutes per subscriber in 2024. This significant improvement is part of a broader innovation strategy to enhance service quality for Dubai residents.

The minimization of electricity outages has reached a new level. The average outage time for each subscriber in Dubai in 2024 was only 0.94 minutes per year, which allowed for a new world record to be set. In 2023, the figure was 1.06 minutes, while elite energy companies in the European Union averaged up to 15 minutes.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), stated: "We continue to develop the infrastructure of electricity and water in Dubai, relying on innovations that are the cornerstone of our approach to managing objects through smart networks, aiming to provide services in accordance with the highest quality standards, reliability, effectiveness, and sustainability."

He also added, "We have reduced the average outage time of electricity from 6.88 minutes in 2012 to only 0.94 minutes in 2024, which confirms our leadership in innovations, including the application of the latest technologies of the fourth industrial revolution to enhance DEWA's flexibility and readiness to follow the growing demand for electricity and water in Dubai."

DEWA also noted that the program "Automated Restoration Network of Smart Grids" is the first of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa and was a key factor in achieving this success. The system allows for managing the network and monitoring it from its origin continuously without human involvement, ensuring automated detection, isolation of faults, and restoration of power supply.

DEWA also received two awards at the "Asian Power Awards 2024" in Singapore: Best Innovative Electric Technology for the project "Active Simulator of Real Power Grids" and Best Smart Grid Project for the Automation of Smart Grid for Distribution Stations.
