Dubai's Road Transport Authority has completed the construction of 40 equipped courier drop-off zones at key locations in the emirate. The project aims to enhance road safety, reduce the risks of road incidents, and promote compliance with traffic laws and regulations.
The General Director and Chairman of the Dubai RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, stated: "The realization of these drop-off zones enhances our commitment to creating a safe and comfortable environment for couriers, especially in light of the rapid growth of the sector in recent years. This initiative is part of efforts to improve road safety, enhance the quality of life, and provide essential services and amenities for couriers during their waiting periods for new orders. Each facility includes a zone that accommodates up to 10 couriers, depending on location, as well as dedicated parking spaces for motorcycles next to the drop-off zones."
"The locations were selected based on an analysis of operational data, demand for delivery service, and agreements with supplier companies. As part of the first phase, the winners of the competition were awarded a new title of Best Partner, while the number of winners in the Outstanding Courier category increased to 200 in response to growing demand. The category of Best Company is also evaluated based on compliance with quality, safety, and security standards, adherence to RTA standards, leveraging best global practices and advanced technologies, and ongoing training and qualification of couriers, as well as improvements in customer satisfaction."
"The Best Courier category emphasizes compliance with traffic regulations, quality and safety standards, as well as the professional conduct of drivers. The courier's performance is assessed in terms of providing excellent quality service, safety, and professionalism, contributing to the growth of the sector in a safe and sustainable environment."
Al Tayer added: "The drop-off zones have been structured to minimize the impact of sunlight while ensuring effective isolation without visibility impairment. Preparation for the second phase of the initiative has already begun. "
"By the end of June in Dubai, 2,535 companies providing courier services were registered, with a total fleet of 46,600 delivery motorcycles. As a result, drop-off zones were created in key areas, including Hessa Street, Barsha Heights, Al Barsha, Al Karama, Riggat Al Butin, Umm Suqeim (Jumeirah 3), Jumeirah (Al-Wasl Road), Zeleny, Dubai World Trade Centre, Al Rashidiya, Al Satwa, Nad Al Hamar, Al Nahda, Oud Metha, Arabian Ranches, International City, Business-Bay, Dubai Marina, Al Jaddaf, Mirdif, Last Exit Al-Havani, Dubai Motor City, and Al Garhoud."
The RTA has implemented a comprehensive structure for the delivery sector to ensure high-quality service standards for the community, including issuing professional certificates for couriers. In 2022, the RTA launched the Excellence Award in the delivery sector to stimulate competition among companies and couriers, enhance road safety standards, ensure compliance with traffic regulations, and improve service delivery for clients. The award recognizes the top three delivery companies and the top three delivery service providers on platforms and applications.
