
The Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), the largest supplier of district cooling services in the world, has signed an agreement with DMCC (Dubai Multi Commodities Centre), a leading international business district that stimulates the flow of global trade through Dubai, on the provision of the following phase of Uptown Dubai, comprising environmentally friendly district cooling services with a total capacity of 24,675 tons of refrigeration (RT).
"The iconic Uptown Tower has become the first building to receive district cooling services from Empower, providing a cooling capacity of 3,850 RT, complying with international standards," said a company representative. According to G-Head Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the former Chairman and General Director of DMCC, the project for the second phase of Uptown Dubai, which is a significant achievement in the development of the area with the construction of two premium commercial towers, started a year ago.
"We are proud to have signed this agreement with DMCC on the provision of the next phase of Uptown Dubai’s environmentally friendly district cooling services," emphasized G-Head Ahmad Bin Shafar, the General Director of Empower. Uptown Dubai represents a global region of smart technologies, developed with a unique blend of versatile multifunctional towers, as well as a multitude of spaces for shopping, restaurants, luxurious hospitality establishments, and sustainable living options.
The enhanced agreement was signed at the DMCC headquarters in the Uptown Tower building in the presence of Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the former Chairman and General Director of DMCC, and H.E. Jay Lee Taun (JLT) includes four energy-efficient plants (of which three are currently operational), with a total projected capacity of 152,000 tons of refrigeration, as well as a comprehensive network of pipelines servicing the entire territory of the district.
"This partnership reflects our commitment to providing innovative and sustainable district cooling solutions that contribute to the reduction of carbon emissions and support national sustainable development goals in the UAE," he added. "Our plants are equipped with advanced infrastructure and production and management systems, ensuring readiness for the maintenance of any new projects of any size or designation, bolstering investor confidence and developers in effective and environmentally friendly services from Empower."
