By 2030, the total capacity of the solar park will be 7,260 MW, and the net energy will constitute about 34% of the total energy capacity of Dubai. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar park is the largest solar park in one location in the world.
The solar projects, implemented by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) as an independent power producer (IPP), hold strategic significance for achieving Dubai's Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai's Strategy for achieving zero carbon emissions by 2050, with the aim that by 2050, 100% of Dubai's energy capacity comes from clean energy sources.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, General Director of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), was introduced to the progress of the sixth phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar park with a capacity of 1,800 MW, developed under a model of independent power producer (IPP) with investments of up to 5.5 billion dirhams.
This phase will provide clean energy for around 540,000 homes and reduce carbon emissions by 2.36 million tons annually. The sixth phase of the solar park uses the latest bifacial solar panel technologies with zero tracking. The project's area covers 20 square kilometers. Currently, the total production capacity of the solar park is 3,460 MW, and another 1,200 MW is under construction.
DEWA representatives also accompanied Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on-site to familiarize him with the progress of the sixth phase. "This phase will provide clean energy for approximately 540 thousand homes and reduce carbon emissions by 2.36 million tons annually," he emphasized.
