Dubai College of Tourism (DCT), in partnership with Marriott International, is introducing a new Hospitality Apprenticeship Programme for Emiratis. This initiative aims to equip young nationals with the skills and experience necessary to succeed in the travel industry and contribute to the growth of the UAE's hospitality sector. The programme, approved by the UAE Ministry of Education, will offer students a Level 4 Diploma in Hospitality upon completion of the two-year course.
Students, aged 18 and above, will undergo training at Marriott's hotels in the UAE, focusing on hotel and restaurant services, front office management, housekeeping, food and beverage management, and essential management skills. The goal is to prepare students for roles as hotel managers and nurture the next generation of Emiratis in the private sector.
The collaboration between DCT and Marriott International aligns with Dubai's economic goals, specifically D33, which aims to strengthen the city's position as a global hub for business and leisure. Mariam Sultan Al Maeeni, Director of Industry Nationalisation at DCT, emphasized the importance of developing a skilled workforce in line with the D33 Agenda and integrating Emiratis into the private sector.
The programme, scheduled to kick off in May 2025, will enroll 40 Emirati students at DCT's One Central campus. Upon completion, graduates will have the opportunity to secure full-time positions at Marriott's properties in the UAE. Over 40 Marriott properties, including more than 30 in Dubai, are participating in the first year of the apprenticeship initiative.
Marriott International's Chief Operating Officer for the Middle East, Sandeep Walia, expressed the company's dedication to nurturing future hospitality leaders. The programme not only aims to develop skilled professionals but also falls under Marriott's sustainability and social impact platform, 'Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction,' focusing on positive and sustainable business practices. By offering a blend of theoretical education and practical training, the programme ensures that students receive valuable industry exposure and guidance from seasoned professionals.
