The power of the solar complex, realized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority as part of the independent producer system, forms the basis for achieving the strategic goals of Dubai 2050 in the field of clean energy and Dubai's carbon neutrality strategy by 2050, which envisions ensuring 100% of energy generation capacity from clean sources by 2050. The Executive Director of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, reviewed the progress of work on the sixth phase of Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, utilizing solar energy with a capacity of 1800 megawatts in the independent producer system, with investments of around 5.5 billion dirhams.
During the visit, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer was briefed on the progress of work on the sixth phase of the complex, where the completion rate reached about 53%, with around 600 megawatts commissioned out of the planned 1800 megawatts. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority implements the latest dual-sided photovoltaic technologies in a system that allows the use of solar rays from both sides. This phase will provide clean energy for approximately 540 thousand homes, and also contributes to a reduction of carbon emissions by 2.36 million tons annually.
The project occupies an area of 20 square kilometers. Currently, the capacity of the operating complex is 3460 megawatts, while projects in the implementation stage have a capacity of 1200 megawatts. By 2030, the capacity of the complex will increase to 7260 megawatts, and clean energy will account for about 34% of the total energy generation capacity in Dubai.
