UAE and UN Sign Agreement on Sudan Humanitarian Aid

The UAE's International Aid Agency has signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The agreement aims to support the delivery of urgent humanitarian and relief aid to the people of Sudan affected by the ongoing conflict in the country.

Under the agreement, the Agency will provide a grant of 15 million US dollars. This funding is allocated to implement the "Protection and Assistance for Conflict-Affected Persons in Sudan" project, scheduled to begin on January 1, 2026, and continue until the end of the following year.

The project aims to enhance humanitarian response efforts for internally displaced persons and conflict-affected individuals in Sudan by providing life-saving measures, including protection, shelter, healthcare, and educational support.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Dr. Tariq Al-Amiri, head of the UAE's International Aid Agency; Rashid Al-Shamsi, Executive Director of Logistics Support at the Agency; and Dr. Khalid Khalifa, Senior Advisor and Representative of the UNHCR to the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

Dr. Al-Amari stated that this agreement is part of the UAE's continuous efforts to alleviate the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan since the outbreak of the conflict. He noted that the country has allocated so far approximately 784 million US dollars in humanitarian and emergency relief aid to support the Sudanese people.

He said: "The UAE will continue to play a pioneering role in international efforts to alleviate the suffering of our brothers in Sudan, driven by our moral and humanitarian responsibility to stand with those affected by conflicts and natural disasters, following the legacy of the UAE's Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and under the guidance of our wise leadership."

The UAE's efforts focus primarily on humanitarian aspects, reflecting the country's firm commitment to providing relief to the Sudanese people. The UAE has provided 4.24 billion US dollars to Sudan over the past decade (2015-2025), and has allocated 784 million US dollars in humanitarian aid since the onset of the current crisis over two and a half years ago.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the UAE is the second-largest donor to Sudan after the United States since the conflict began.

The UAE reaffirms its steadfast and unwavering commitment to supporting efforts to address this catastrophic crisis and to working collectively with regional and international partners, especially in Africa, to ensure stability and peace for the brotherly Sudanese people, embodying the deep-rooted values of human solidarity in the UAE, both in leadership and among the people.
