Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced the launch of eight main transmission substations during the current year 2025, in addition to extending underground cables and overhead transmission lines spanning 250 kilometers at a total cost exceeding 1.35 billion dirhams. These projects will be implemented in the areas of Warsan 4, Al Yalayis 5, Hatta, Saih Shuaib 3, Al Habiyah 5, and Jebel Ali First. This initiative is part of efforts to develop an advanced power infrastructure that meets the rapid growth of the emirate of Dubai. Furthermore, five projects to construct main transmission substations at 132 kV have been initiated to supply power to new residential areas such as Latifa City, Al Awir First, and Al Khawaneej Second, as well as other areas including Al Sada and Zaabeel Second, at a total cost of 560 million dirhams. This brings the total number of 132 kV transmission substation projects started in 2025 to 22. The authority plans to build more than 78 substations at 132 kV over the next three years. DEWA confirmed that the new substations represent a significant addition to the existing electricity transmission network, which includes 394 substations by the end of the third quarter of 2025, comprising 27 substations at 400 kV and 367 at 132 kV. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, stated: "In line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktum, we are working at DEWA to provide electricity and water services in accordance with the highest standards of availability, reliability, and efficiency to meet the growing demand and keep pace with the sustainable development needs of Dubai." He added: "The total value of electricity transmission network projects under construction exceeds 8.5 billion dirhams, with the availability and reliability of transmission lines reaching nearly 100%." He pointed out that the work in these new projects includes constructing the substations and extending the necessary underground cables to connect them to the main network using the latest digital technologies and globally recognized smart systems in the energy transmission sector, ensuring the highest levels of safety and operational reliability. These projects complement the existing infrastructure, which includes the implementation of 53 substations at 132 kV, in addition to 132 kV underground transmission cables extending 226 kilometers, two 400 kV substations, and 130 kilometers of 400 kV overhead transmission lines, with completion expected by 2028.
