The automatic dust and sand accumulation monitoring system for photovoltaic panels, developed by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has achieved tangible results in improving the operational performance of solar energy systems. Field tests of the prototype, installed at the Authority's main building parking lot, demonstrated the device's effectiveness in reducing losses caused by dust and sand accumulation by 10%, while lowering operational costs related to cleaning and maintenance. The system's operating mechanism is based on analyzing the level of solar radiation and comparing the actual output of the solar panels with the ideal expected output under predefined operating conditions.
