Dubai authorities are warning tourists about the risks of booking trips. According to Ahmed Ahli, Acting Director of Dubai's Consumer Protection Department, many problems arise from ignoring details or dealing with unverified intermediaries. He advises booking only through official channels with licensed companies or directly with service providers.
A key issue is group booking. When an entire group is placed under one reservation, any change in plans by some members leads to high costs for everyone. In such cases, it is recommended to make separate reservations for each family.
Ahli also warns against "unrealistic offers." An unusually low price can be a sign that the seller is unlicensed. He emphasized that a hotel's "free cancellation" policy is often time-limited and does not cover all potential penalties. It is crucial to carefully read the terms and conditions, which must clearly state all taxes and fees.
Regarding airline tickets, a "flexible" or "refundable" class does not always mean free changes. Often, a fare difference must be paid. If there is an issue with the accommodation, the tourist has the right to a refund or compensation, even if they temporarily accept a room that does not match the description.
