Almost every month, extreme weather disasters claim more lives in South and Southeast Asia. It is clear that the people of this region now live with the reality of uncontrolled climate change, a crisis in which the rest of the world played a major role in creating, while these countries were left to face the consequences alone. A recent report from the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis in the United States indicates that Asia lost more than $75 billion annually between 2020 and 2023 as a direct result of climate-related events. This represents about 40% of global total losses.
