The powerful Emirates Group and Dubai airports presented the results of a study on Thursday, which examined the economic impact of the aviation industry in Dubai.
Experts pointed out that the aviation contribution to the local economy amounted to approximately 26.7 billion dollars in 2019. This corresponds to 13.8 percent of Dubai's total economic output (GDP). As for jobs directly or indirectly related to aviation, their number last year was around 416,500 people.
"The year 2019 was crucial for our sector. The data underscores the significant contribution of aviation to Dubai's economy and highlights the role of the emirate as a global aviation hub," noted the chairman of the higher body, Dirk Mahbubani.
At the same time, it is suggested that COVID-19 negatively impacted the aviation sector. "It is expected that the crisis will cause a significant decrease in the economic impact of the sector in 2020," added the representative of the Emirates Group.
