In the framework of the event dedicated to the World Day of Clean Energy, the Minister of Climate Change and Environment Dr. Aminah Bint Abdullah Az-Zahak emphasized the obligation of the UAE to build a sustainable future in the energy sector and its active participation in the development of the global sector of clean and renewable energy. She noted that this day represents an important opportunity to explore the role of clean energy in achieving climate goals through fair and equitable transformation of the energy sector, ensuring energy security, leading to a more sustainable future for all.
Dr. Az-Zahak emphasized that the UAE possesses three of the largest solar power plants in the world, as well as a solar power project with battery storage, which provides 1 gigawatt of round-the-clock energy. She also highlighted the Barakah nuclear plants, which provide about 25% of the UAE's electricity needs. According to her, these advanced projects confirm the country's obligations and its commitment to achieving the UAE's climate neutrality strategy by 2050.
In her turn, the Deputy Chairman of the Dubai Energy Supreme Council, the Executive Director of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al-Tayer emphasized the importance of increasing the share of renewable and clean energy in the energy mix at the global level, which facilitates the acceleration of climate actions, the preservation of natural resources, and support for international efforts to combat climate change. He also pointed out that Dubai aims to ensure 100% production capacity of energy from clean energy sources by 2050 under the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Climate Neutrality Strategy 2050 for the Emirate.
Projects, implemented in the UAE and Dubai, serve as a model for all countries of the world in this area, as they are aimed at building a new world based on clean and sustainable energy resources, contributing to a brighter and more sustainable future for all.
