The gaming platform Roblox, offering engaging games and the ability to create content, is now available in Arabic for all users around the world. Arabic language support is provided on desktop, tablets, Android and iOS mobile devices, as well as on PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Roblox General Director and co-founder David Baszucki announced the launch of Arabic language support in a statement during a formal discussion at the World Government Summit, held in Dubai from February 11 to 13 under the theme 'Shaping the Future of Governments'. Commenting on the news, Baszucki stated: 'At Roblox, our global mission is to unite billions of people with optimism and kindness, and to do this we need a platform that is accessible to everyone.'
Roblox was the second and fifth most downloaded gaming application in the iOS App Store and Google Play Store respectively in 2024, and from the third quarter of 2021 to the third quarter of 2024, the number of daily active users and hours spent playing Roblox increased by an average of 80 and 76 percent in five countries in the MENA region.
Arabic language support is now also expanding to automated translation tools, which creators can use to present their games and engaging experiences in any of 16 languages, including Arabic, currently supported on the Roblox platform, without the need for manual management of the translation process.
The filtering technology of Roblox's text chat, used to detect and block unwanted words and phrases in text chat, is already operational in Arabic. The company aims to present a new format of uniting people in a world that will be safe, kind, and optimistic.
Arabic is one of 16 linguistic resources supported on the platform, and today’s launch reflects the growing popularity of Roblox in the MENA region. With the increasing presence of our community here, in the UAE, and throughout the broader MENA region, we are pleased to announce that we now support the Arabic language in the Roblox programming stack, allowing millions of Arabic speakers worldwide to access the platform’s functionality across all devices.
Roblox has 88.9 million daily active users worldwide and represents a platform where people can gather together, play, explore, create, and learn in millions of engaging user-generated games and virtual experiences made by a global developer community. This is one of the technologies that Roblox uses to further support moderated communities to uphold platform community standards, under the principle of safety by design.
