Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), has introduced the Hewi Dubai initiative to revolutionize public spaces within the city. This initiative aims to honor traditional Emirati neighborhoods by creating new community spaces that enhance social connections and promote an active lifestyle.
According to Sheikh Hamdan, the essence of Emirati culture is deeply rooted in community bonds and values. The initiative focuses on reimagining public spaces to cater to the needs of families, individuals, and different age groups, thereby fostering unity and a sense of belonging.
The project includes the development of Hewi Nad Al Sheba 4 in partnership with Dubai Municipality, representing a novel approach to creating public spaces. The park, strategically located between a mosque and a residential area, has been selected for its pedestrian-friendly environment and community-centric atmosphere. It signifies a departure from traditional public spaces to tailor-made parks that prioritize comfort, inclusivity, and everyday routines.
Key features of Hewi Nad Al Sheba 4 have been intricately designed to resonate with the values and requirements of the local community. Various zones within the park, such as 'Al Yalsa' for families offering a relaxing seating area overlooking the children's play zone, aim to provide spaces for relaxation, supervision of children, or casual gatherings.
Meandering pathways and nature-inspired play areas within the park encourage exploration, physical activities, and intergenerational interactions, transforming it into a space that feels both organic and familiar. The design of 'Al Decha,' a shaded seating area near the mosque, promotes intergenerational bonding and encourages elders to share stories over traditional Arabic coffee or tea.
Moreover, the park features 'Al Saaha,' a versatile indoor-outdoor space intended for hosting community events, workshops, and celebrations. The innovative design of Hewi Nad Al Sheba 4 reflects a shift towards creating vibrant public spaces that serve as extensions of cultural identity and communal aspirations, enriching the lives of residents and visitors alike.
