
Middlesex University in Dubai held the first showcase of its student program "MDX 2025" with the support of Dubai Media City. This initiative, which is mandated by the fund, aims to support local talents in the media and creative industries. Five student films, distinguished by their quality and creative audacity, were screened as part of the program at the Roxy cinema in Dubai Hills Mall.
The program included a presentation of works by 16 graduates, filmed using professional Red, Black Magic Design cameras, and Dolby Atmos technology for enhanced sound. The films varied in their thematic, linguistic, and cinematic approaches. Among them was the documentary "Echoes of the Earth," which narrates the traditions of pearl diving in the UAE and the life of the Shihis in Ras al-Khaimah. Director Ali Fuad was awarded the title of "Director of the Year."
Mohammed Suleiman Al Mulla, General Director of Dubai Media City, emphasized that similar initiatives help support emerging talents in the film industry and provide them with high-level platforms to share their stories. He added that it also contributes to shaping the future of creativity in the country.
Professor Sidune Fernandes, Associate Dean and Director of the Middlesex University Dubai branch, noted: "MDX Studios is a unique film school in the region that offers the opportunity to enter this industry. Our investment in talent and technology reflects our commitment to supporting creative voices in the region and providing them access to international platforms."
MDX Studios continues to qualify students and support their successful careers in the film industry at both regional and global levels. Several graduates of the program have been awarded prestigious international awards, including the Cannes Film Festival and the New York Film Festival, which testify to the quality and impact of the program.
