Dubai Court Rejects Appeal of Woman Convicted in Deadly Crash

Dubai’s Court of Cassation has rejected the final appeal of an Arab woman convicted for causing a deadly traffic accident while driving under the influence of alcohol, confirming earlier rulings from the Misdemeanours Court and Court of Appeal. The incident occurred in October last year in the Al Qudra area. The woman, intoxicated at the time, veered into another vehicle, which struck a lamp post and a parked car before hitting a third vehicle. One man died from severe injuries, while two others sustained various injuries. Medical reports confirmed she had been driving under the influence, which she admitted. Her car then struck three pedestrians on the roadside. The court ruled that her negligent driving was the primary cause of the accident, although two surviving pedestrians were partially responsible for standing in the middle of the road. The Court of Cassation upheld her liability for damages to the vehicles involved and maintained the financial penalties, making the verdict final. She was fined Dh10,000 and ordered to pay Dh200,000 in blood money to the heirs of the victim, according to Al Khaleej.
