Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet makes her directorial debut with the drama film «Goodbye John». The plot revolves around a family's bond in the face of the pain of loss. Winslet also stars in the film, and the screenplay was written by her son, Joe Alwyn. The story is partially inspired by their personal experience of losing Winslet's mother and Alwyn's grandmother to cancer in 2017. At the film's premiere in London, Winslet said, «I just wanted to make a film that feels real and authentic». She added: «I also didn't want to tell a story about a person dying, because that's not really what it is. It's actually about the life that's given to people after someone has passed». Winslet stated: «We need to recognize and honor the people who do this incredible work, especially those who work in the care industry».
