In Dubai, the Jumeirah district has launched the 'Sustainability Village', an educational and interactive initiative aimed at raising environmental awareness and encouraging community members and visitors to adopt sustainable practices. This project contributes to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation in the UAE as part of national efforts to enhance environmental security and develop innovative solutions for resource sustainability.
The village invites visitors to embark on a comprehensive learning journey, starting with understanding the vital role of pollinators through a visit to the beekeeping farm in Jumeirah, and extending to exploring hydroponic systems that minimize resource consumption. It highlights the importance of integrating sustainable agricultural practices into urban environments.
The village also showcases the nation's efforts in marine conservation, particularly the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project, which has been active since 2004. This project has successfully rescued, rehabilitated, and released over 2,320 sea turtles into the Arabian Gulf.
These efforts also include coral reef restoration programs, with approximately 1,400 coral fragments being nurtured in specialized nurseries, in addition to transplanting hundreds of mature pieces into the sea.
Visitors can learn about waste reduction and circular economy initiatives through plastic recycling workshops offered in a dedicated recycling center, in collaboration with a climate technology startup based in the UAE.
