The organization pointed to an increase in animal trafficking, mainly attributing it to the surging demand for exotic pets. Law enforcement agencies from 134 countries participated in the confiscation operations. Interpol Secretary-General Jürgen Stock stated in a statement: 'These networks are increasingly linked to various crime areas, from drug smuggling to human exploitation.' According to Interpol, live animal trafficking reached record levels in 2025. This was announced yesterday following an operation that resulted in the seizure of nearly 30,000 animals and the identification of 1,100 suspects. In September and October of last year, 6,160 birds, 2,040 turtles, 1,150 reptiles, 208 monkeys, 46 pangolins, 10 predators, and 19,415 other wild animals were confiscated.
