Dubai hosts family-oriented 'Ghmaran' camp

In Dubai, the «Ghmaran» camp kicked off in the desert under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Defence. Over three days, participating families experienced a real camping trip in the heart of the desert, where they learned Bedouin life skills and deepened their understanding of authentic Emirati heritage. In its first week, the camp offered a diverse program, including a series of workshops on setting up tents, learning Emirati customs, poetry recitation, and training children in falconry, archery, and camel riding. The «Ghmaran» camp, organized under the supervision of the Hamdan bin Mohammed Centre for Heritage Revival, supports the goals of the «Year of Community» and Dubai's Community Agenda 2033, which aim to build a more cohesive society. Abdullah bin Dalmook, CEO of the Hamdan bin Mohammed Centre for Heritage Revival, said: «We are delighted with the remarkable success of the camp's first cohort. This achievement confirms that investing in the youth is the most impactful and sustainable investment. The experience has shown that returning to our ancestors' environment is not just a heritage activity but a practical school that teaches patience, communication, and responsibility». Participants expressed their happiness with the experience, noting that it allowed them to live in a traditional atmosphere that recalled the simplicity of desert life and strengthened family bonds across generations. They added that the leadership's support for such initiatives reflects its commitment to strengthening family and social fabric by returning to roots and authentic values. Participants also praised the activities that gave their children a chance to rediscover heritage in a practical, interactive way. The camp added another educational dimension with agricultural and awareness sessions, including palm frond craftsmanship, uses of the Ghaf tree, crop irrigation, as well as celestial navigation and identifying wildlife tracks. The «Ghmaran» camp is preparing to welcome a new batch of families from the 26th to the 28th to relive the experience aimed at reinforcing Emirati identity and family bonds through educational and interactive activities.
