Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiled its Dynamic Message Signs (DMS) system as a pivotal tool for improving traffic flow and road safety across the emirate. With 112 electronic signs on major roads, real‑time alerts have cut travel times by up to 20 % by warning drivers of accidents, congestion, breakdowns and weather conditions. The network is backed by sensors that record traffic volumes, vehicle speeds and weather, feeding data into the Intelligent Traffic Systems Centre (iTraffic) where AI analyzes the information for rapid response plans.
In the first half of 2025, the DMS issued more than 17 800 messages, of which 12 283 were accident alerts, and 22 signs displayed estimated travel times to key destinations such as Dubai International Airport and Dubai Marina.
"Sequential messages are sent based on the location of an incident," said Salah Al Marzouqi, Director of Intelligent Traffic Systems at RTA, "which helps prevent secondary accidents and ensures safer travel."
RTA emphasized that the DMS rollout demonstrates the emirate’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology for safer and more efficient mobility, aligning with Dubai’s vision of becoming a smart city that prioritizes public safety and operational excellence.
