Dubai Safari Park has celebrated a conservation milestone with the birth of a new Southern giraffe calf named Zuri. The Southern giraffe is classified as Vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), with an estimated population of just 45,000 to 50,000 remaining in the wild.
The healthy calf, weighing 44 kilograms, is thriving under the dedicated care of the park's zoologists. Experts provide continuous monitoring to ensure Zuri grows strong. The playful youngster is already enjoying runs around the enclosure and cooling off in the park's misting system.
Muna Alhajeri, Director of Dubai Safari Park, highlighted that the birth coincides with the launch of the park's seventh season.
"Our endangered species breeding program is central to our mission of protecting vulnerable species. This is a proud moment for the park, and we look forward to sharing this achievement with our visitors," she said.
The park's breeding initiative aims to boost populations through global collaboration. Additionally, a portion of admission revenues supports wildlife rescue and research, enabling visitors to contribute directly to animal protection.
