During Ramadan, Dubai hosts the traditional cannon-firing ceremony, drawing families from across the nation to witness this iconic event that symbolizes community unity and preservation of Emirati heritage.

Dubai's Ramadan Cannon Firing Tradition

With the arrival of the holy month of Ramadan, Dubai's cannon-firing ceremony is witnessing significant public participation as families flock to the fixed cannon sites or 'Rahal' locations across the emirate. This scene reflects the depth of authentic Emirati traditions during this blessed month. Just before the Maghrib call to prayer, these sites transform into a daily destination for families who bring their children to witness the moment the cannon is fired to mark the breaking of the fast and to capture commemorative photos that document this age-old custom amidst an atmosphere of joy and happiness. Many attendees of the Iftar cannon ceremony agree that it has become a symbol of the holy month, embodying the connection of the Emirati community to its authentic heritage and traditions. Dubai Police places great importance on the Iftar cannon activities during Ramadan, as they represent a revival of Arab and Islamic traditions and culture within the society of the United Arab Emirates. Throughout the holy month, six fixed cannons operate in various locations, including JBR, Burj Khalifa, Damac Hills, Dubai Expo (Entrance Square), Dubai Festival City, and Vida Creek Harbour. Additionally, a mobile cannon visits 17 areas during Ramadan, moving from Zabeel Park to Umm Suqeim Council, then to JBR, Bab Al Shams Hotel, The Meydan, followed by Global Village, Atlantis Hotel, Nadd Shiba Council, Margam area, Burj Khalifa, Lahab area, Al Khawaneej Council, Marsa Boulevard, Al Warqa area, Vida Creek Harbour, and finally Al Barsha Park.
