The 38th World Congress of Sports Medicine, hosted for the first time in the UAE, has brought together elite sports medicine practitioners from around the world. Specialists in various fields such as orthopaedic surgery, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, sports nutrition, sports psychology, and biomechanics have gathered to discuss significant topics important to the athlete community.

His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed expressed his gratitude to the Scientific Committee for consistently selecting relevant topics. The Congress, being held at the Dubai World Trade Centre until October 27th, continues the legacy of the International Federation of Sports Medicine, established 96 years ago during the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics.

During his keynote address, Dr. Hashel Al Tunaiji emphasized the UAE leadership's commitment to advancing sports medicine and sports sciences, in line with the National Sports Strategy 2031. He highlighted the importance of hosting such a prestigious event in the UAE, showcasing the nation's capabilities in organizing international events.

The Congress features a diverse range of sessions, workshops, research papers, and participation from over 30 supporting entities and representatives from more than 70 countries. Specialized topics being covered include marathon medical care, biomechanics, pain management, and caring for athletes with special needs in the Paralympic Games.

His Highness Sheikh Mansoor toured the exhibition held alongside the Congress, learning about the latest advancements in sports medicine and innovative approaches for athlete care. Fabio Pigozzi, President of the International Federation of Sports Medicine, highlighted the expanding role of sports medicine in both recreational and competitive sports.

The opening day included a panel discussion on 'The Future of Sports Medicine and Sciences in the GCC'. Notable attendees at the event included public figures and sports personalities, coming together to exchange the latest developments in sports medicine and engage in discussions related to scientific, academic, and technical research.

The Congress also aims to promote health, prevent and treat diseases through physical activity, support athletes in their return to sports post-injury, and explore advancements in sports science, physical performance, and the application of technology and AI in sports. The event showcases the UAE's commitment to promoting health and physical activity not only for athletes but for the broader community as well.
