The company Dubai Can has announced the achievement of an important milestone in the Dubai Reef project, which is the largest man-made reef in the world. As part of this initiative, the first 1,000 reef modules have been produced and are ready for installation. This step represents a significant advance in creating a sustainable marine ecosystem in Dubai.
The Dubai Reef project was launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum and envisions the installation of 20,000 specially designed reef modules of various sizes over three phases. This project, covering 600 square kilometers of Dubai's water territory, aims to create a beneficial marine habitat for diverse marine species.
Luna Khloui, the director of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, noted: "The completion of the first 1,000 reef modules coincides with the project timeline, and we eagerly anticipate the continuation of efforts aimed at enhancing Dubai's marine ecology."
Dubai Reef is the second major project under the Dubai Can initiative, focused on sustainability, and aligns its activities with the ambitious goals of Dubai's Economic Program. Project partners include various public and private organizations, including the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority, DP World, Dubai Chambers, and others.
The creation of reef modules for the project began in August 2024, with the first batch of 1,000 modules ready for installation by November 2024. Each module is designed with the intention of creating beneficial habitats for various species of fish and marine fauna, including corals, sea anemones, sponges, and mollusks.
