The Importance of Tongue Color in Health Diagnosis

The color of the tongue can indicate various health issues, from digestive disorders to vitamin deficiencies. Regular cleaning and attention to tongue color are essential for overall health.

A person's tongue is like teeth, needing to be cleaned twice a day - in the morning and in the evening. If the tongue turns yellow, it may indicate violations in the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, or gallbladder. The doctor notes that dark varnished tongue may have side effects from the intake of antibiotics, fungal infections, bacterial infections, dry mouth, diabetes, as well as HIV.

Sometimes a change in tongue color can be caused by poor hygiene, smoking, or the use of electronic cigarettes, and consumption of alcohol. An enlarged and swollen tongue may indicate a deficiency of iron and an allergic reaction. But a pale-pink color may indicate anemia and iron deficiency, while a bright-red one indicates a deficiency of vitamins or elevated body temperature.

A white coating on the tongue may indicate a fungal infection or dryness. Swelling or bumps on the tongue may be symptoms of an infection, autoimmune disorders, or, in rare cases, cancer. A glazed tongue has a pink color.
