Today, the IAEA celebrates the Day of Nuclear and Radiation Professionals. This day is designated to acknowledge the contribution of workers in the development of nuclear energy programs, which has made the country a model for new nuclear nations worldwide.
The Director-General of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), Kristor Viktorison, noted: "The Day of Nuclear and Radiation Professionals is the opportunity to give due recognition to around 20,000 workers in the nuclear and radiation sector in the IAEA for their dedication, expertise, and unparalleled commitment to ensuring the safe, reliable, and peaceful use of nuclear and radiation materials and technologies.
Initiatives undertaken at the IAEA demonstrate the country's obligation to uphold the highest standards of safety in nuclear and radiation sectors. Progress in the nuclear and radiation sector in the country has been the result of the collective leadership of the IAEA and authorities, as well as effective collaboration with partners over many years. The influence of the IAEA on the nuclear and radiation sector has been recognized at the international level. Their contribution not only supports innovations and progress but also ensures the protection of life and the surrounding environment."
"Celebrating the IAEA Year of the General Assembly this year, the FANR joins all stakeholders in fulfilling its obligations for the regulation of the nuclear and radiation sectors to ensure the protection of society, workers, and the surrounding environment," added Viktorison.
According to Aida Shekhafi, Director of Radiation Safety at FANR, the Radiation Safety Committee will dedicate its efforts in 2024 to strengthening the infrastructure of radiation safety in the IAEA.
The professional day of nuclear and radiation workers was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of the IAEA in January 2023 to mark the anniversary on February 16, 2020, when the Federal Agency for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) issued a license for the extraction of block No. 1 from the AEC Baraka.
This professional day highlights the successful histories, achievements, and dedication of workers in the nuclear and radiation sectors of the IAEA. The international agency on atomic energy (MAGATE) and others recognized the country for its outstanding infrastructure of radiation safety.
