When we think of the most central tech gadget in our homes, a computer or a smartphone might come to mind. The shocking paradox is that the television market itself has become a notably bad experience. But the truth, old and new, is that the television is the heart of the home experience. All it takes is turning on your device to face one of two scenes: a window asking for a software update, or a main screen cluttered with unwanted apps and ads. Since the 80s and 90s, TVs have transformed from big boxes with small screens into the center of the home experience. It was like that fifty years ago, and it still is today, perhaps even more so with the rise of streaming platforms, video games, and even YouTube. However, it was not always this way.
