The international organization is concerned about the recent events and actions that violate human rights in a number of countries, stated a senior representative of the UN. The statement of Volker Turk reflects his concern regarding the threat to human rights, representing those whose rights are at risk.
"The situation calls for immediate action in which human rights are under threat," he noted, pointing to specific circumstances undermining human rights principles. "We urgently require authorities and civil society to steadily implement measures to protect people's rights," emphasized Turk.
Due to national security laws adopted in certain countries, civil and political freedoms have come under threat. "It is essential to find a balance between state security and protected human rights," he added. "The creation of laws that threaten fundamental freedoms is unacceptable," stated the UN representative.
