Dubai Upgrades Traffic Control with AI Technology

Dubai is implementing an AI-powered traffic signal control system to enhance mobility and reduce congestion by 10-20%. The project aims for completion by mid-2026.

Dubai Upgrades Traffic Control with AI Technology

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a new project aimed at enhancing traffic light management in the city through the use of artificial intelligence (AI). The project involves the deployment of the UTC-UX Fusion system, a cutting-edge traffic signal control technology that utilizes AI to forecast traffic flow and optimize signal timings in anticipation of traffic fluctuations.

Hussain Al Banna, the CEO of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the RTA, highlighted that the implementation of this innovative system is part of the Authority's broader goal to establish Dubai as a global model for seamless and sustainable transportation. By leveraging advanced technologies, such as AI, the RTA intends to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance travel efficiency by 10% to 20%, and provide preferential treatment to specific vehicle types like public transport and emergency vehicles.

The upgraded traffic light control system will be rolled out across major intersections in Dubai and is scheduled for completion by the first half of 2026. This initiative signifies RTA's unwavering commitment to embracing smart solutions for traffic management and solidifying Dubai's reputation as a leading smart city that prioritizes sustainability and innovation.
