The United Nations General Assembly adopted five resolutions concerning the Palestinian issue by an overwhelming majority yesterday, Friday. The resolutions emphasize the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state with its capital in East Jerusalem. They also condemn Israeli settlement activities and call for respect for international humanitarian law. UN Secretary-General António Guterres urged the parties to exercise maximum restraint and return to the negotiating table. "We cannot afford to lose another generation to this conflict," he stated. The adoption of the resolutions comes in response to the escalation of tension in the region and the continuation of Israeli settlement construction in occupied territories.
