Dubai Launches Smart Cameras for Cleanliness Monitoring

Dubai tests AI-powered cameras to monitor littering and illegal dumping, enhancing urban cleanliness with real-time data enforcement.

Dubai Launches Smart Cameras for Cleanliness Monitoring

Dubai launches a smart camera system pilot to monitor cleanliness. The initiative aims to track road and residential area cleanliness, detect illegal dumping near waste containers, sidewalks, and public squares. Captured images are analyzed instantly and displayed on interactive dashboards, enabling swift action. The system monitors violations like littering (fined up to AED500), improper furniture disposal, and other practices harming the city’s appearance. Engineer Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, affirmed the project aligns with a strategy to enhance monitoring, data-driven decisions, and sustainable policies. Pilot outcomes will be evaluated before expansion. Engineer Adel Al Marzouqi, Executive Director of the Waste and Sewerage Agency, highlighted the system’s role in accurate violation documentation and rapid corrective measures, while protecting privacy per Dubai’s smart city goals. The project supports Dubai’s 2041 Integrated Waste Management Strategy.
