The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, expressed concern on Friday about the increasing resort to force to resolve conflicts worldwide. He noted that this trend poses a serious threat to international law and security. Türk emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only effective means of resolving disputes. He called on all parties to exercise restraint and return to the negotiating table. «Violence only begets violence, and we see this in numerous conflicts around the world,» the commissioner stated. He added that the world cannot afford to ignore the lessons of the past and must seek peaceful solutions.
