The United Nations has renewed its call for all parties to the conflict in the Middle East to comply with international law regarding the conduct of hostilities, stressing the need to avoid targeting civilian infrastructure. Stéphane Dujarric, the official spokesperson for the UN, stated on Monday that all parties must adhere to their obligations concerning the conduct of hostilities. Dujarric said that UN Secretary-General António Guterres reminds that civilian infrastructure, including energy-related facilities, must not be attacked, and that even if a specific piece of infrastructure can be considered a military objective, international humanitarian law prohibits attacks against it if it would lead to excessive civilian harm. In another development, the UN spokesperson announced that the United Nations continues its discussions on forming a new task force to ensure the safe passage of humanitarian shipments of fertilizers and other materials through the Strait of Hormuz. Dujarrik noted that the Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process, Jean Arnault, will travel to the region today, adding that he will provide more details tomorrow or in the coming days about the list of countries he will visit.
