Thamer Magdy Ali Aspires to be First Emirati International Umpire

Tamer Madjdi Ali is one of the young Emirati referees from the United Arab Emirates in tennis, striving to become the first Emirati referee in the 'general referee' category, having participated in the officiating of international tournaments, particularly in Grand Slam events. He utilizes his experience, gained through participating in organizing international competitions held in the Emirates, particularly in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, such as tournaments in Dubai, the Mubadala tournament, and Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, as well as international junior ITF tournaments.

Tamer Madjdi Ali, a 26-year-old referee, is considered the youngest Emirati referee in the world of tennis. According to him, the valuable opportunities provided to him by the Tennis Federation of the Emirates, as well as the guidance of his father, Dr. Madjdi Ali, who himself was an international referee, allowed him to stand out at tournaments in which he participated.

Tamer asserts that the pre-existing sports infrastructure, existing in the Emirates, as well as high exposure, achieved through hosting world-class tennis tournaments, such as those in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, motivated him to strive to become a world referee in the future. He says: "My dream is to become the first Emirati referee who can officiate at international tournaments in major championships beyond the Emirates, especially in Grand Slam events. This dream requires constant work, development, and striving."

Tamer started his journey in Nasr City, where he played tennis, and then, in his first try, at the age of 14, he first tried himself as a line judge at the Mubadala tournament. He continued his path and received the opportunity to officiate at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, and thanks to the support of the Tennis Federation, he was represented at international and foreign tournaments, such as the Davis Cup. Tamer strives for continuous improvement through studying innovations in the world of tennis and developing his skills.
