Last night in Italy, the winter world games Special Olympics - Torino 2025 started, and our sportswoman Minkha al-Mazrui took part in the opening ceremony, raising the flag of the Special Olympics. The sports delegation from the UAE, participating in these games, includes 30 individuals, including 11 athletes with disabilities.

Talal al-Hashimi, national director of Special Olympics UAE and head of the delegation at Torino 2025, commented: "Minkha al-Mazrui's participation in the opening ceremony is a moment of pride for all Emiratis, a confirmation of the deep commitment of the government to support and include people with disabilities in various fields."

He also added: "We are investing in a strategy to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, which is led by wise leadership of the UAE. Our ongoing efforts have led to significant progress in the preparation and support of our youth and girls-athletes in the Special Olympics UAE."

As Talal al-Hashimi emphasized, since the Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi in 2019, a significant growth in the integration and success of people with disabilities in sports has been noted.
