International soccer specialists and technical analysts identified four main challenges faced by the national team head coach of the Portuguese soccer team, Paulo Bento, ahead of matches against the national teams of Iran and KND during the period of 20 and 25 of the current month, as part of the seventh and eighth rounds of the qualifying stage of the 2026 World Cup. Experts noted that the main challenges include the decline in the technical level of some key players of the national team in recent matches for their clubs, both at the domestic and international level. Additionally, some players, on whom Paulo Bento's training relies heavily, did not make the starting lineup in their clubs and played matches on the bench. One of the challenges involves effectively utilizing players, especially considering new faces in the team, while the fourth challenge concerns stabilizing the squad, taking into account recent changes in the lineup.
The sportsmen noted that head coach Paulo Bento is fortunate as he has exceptional players and new faces who can make a difference, especially in the match with Iran. However, his biggest challenge is creating a harmonious and cohesive squad from the existing elements, included in the recent team composition. For this reason, the sportsmen expressed confidence that new players like Caio Lucas and Luan Pereira could significantly contribute to the team.
Last week, the national team's internal camp started in the Dubai area after the coaching staff selected 27 players for the new mission. It is expected that players from Shabab Al-Ahli and Sharjah clubs will join the team after participating in the Asian Summit, which took place yesterday.
Fahad Hamis, a former international player and technical analyst, expressed optimism regarding the national team, emphasizing the importance of full mobilization of the players' abilities.
The main challenge that could arise for the national team ahead of matches against Iran and KND is establishing a permanent lineup and utilizing players, highlighted Hamis. He also noted that the coach must pay attention to the decline in the technical level of some players and hold discussions with them prior to the upcoming matches.
Hassan Suhail, a former player and former team observer, believes that the current squad is an important stage in the selection process, as before the national team, important tests await them against Iran and KND. He expressed confidence in the team's ability to handle the challenges and also hopes that the coaching staff creates a well-thought-out plan to overcome strong opponents. He mentioned that meeting with the Iranian team on their field in Tehran is a challenging test requiring elevated efforts and concentration from the players.
Ahmed Hamad, a sports administrator and technical analyst, pointed out the challenges that await Paulo Bento ahead of matches against Iran and KND, including the necessity for players to return to their peak performance level and that the current selection is at full strength. He also noted a positive trend in incorporating new players into the squad, who can add additional strength to the team.
