The midfielder of the Al-Bataeh club from the Abu Dhabi Professional League, Uzbek footballer Aziz Janiev, led his team a big step closer to preserving their place in the UAE Professional League by scoring the only goal in the match 1-0 against Bani Yas. The game took place tonight at the Khalid bin Mohammed Stadium as part of the 23rd round of the tournament. Janiev scored the goal from a penalty in the 55th minute, awarded by referee Adel Nakbi after defender Joao Victor handled the ball within the penalty area. This decision provoked protests from Bani Yas players.
Al-Bataeh climbed to second place with 24 points, surpassing Dibba Al-Hisn by 8 points. The latter has 16 points and three rounds left until the end of the season. Despite the loss, Bani Yas, with 25 points, occupies the twelve position and now needs just one point from the next three matches to officially preserve their place in the league.
