Al-Wasl Club announced the dismissal of their Portuguese coach Luis Castro immediately after drawing 2-2 with their Bahraini counterpart Al-Muharraq.

Al-Wasl's head coach, Portuguese Luis Castro, confirmed that his team started their match against the visiting Al-Muharraq with shaky confidence, which reflected in the 2-2 draw, in the match held on Wednesday evening at Zabeel Stadium, as part of the fourth round of Group A in the AFC Champions League 2.

Castro said at the post-match press conference: "We knew it would be a tough encounter because the opposing team came to win all three points, but we entered the match with somewhat shaky confidence and suffered from a lack of focus in the second half, leading to a draw."

He added: "The match against Al-Muharraq was an extension of the state the players have been in during recent matches. Despite the hard work we did last week in preparation for this match, football, like other aspects of life, won't yield desired results if you don't work hard enough."

Castro continued: "In recent matches, luck was against us in many situations, even though we were the better team in terms of possession and creating chances, but we lacked the finishing touch, and the results were contrary to our aspirations."

Regarding the five goals conceded by Al-Wasl in their last three matches, starting with the elimination from the President's Cup against Dibba, followed by a league draw against Khor Fakkan, and culminating in the match against Al-Muharraq, Castro said: "I agree that we faced difficult defensive moments in past matches, but we will continue to work on correcting our mistakes and regaining confidence and focus in converting the chances we get in front of goal."

Meanwhile, Al-Wasl's Brazilian player Adrielson da Silva, who was named the man of the match and scored the equalizer in the final minutes, said: "We started the match with shaky confidence, which made us pay the price for not achieving a win, but we will continue to work hard in preparation for our next match against Al-Jazira to regain confidence in the upcoming training sessions."
