Tunisian Player Charged with Spitting at Fans

The English Football Association charged Tunisian international Hannibal Mejbri, a Burnley midfielder, with improper conduct on Tuesday. He is accused of allegedly spitting at Leeds United fans during his team's 2-0 victory at their ground in the Premier League last October. Mejbri came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute. The FA stated in a statement: "It is alleged that the player acted in contravention of the Laws of the Game in an improper manner and engaged in improper and unsporting behavior by spitting at or towards Leeds United fans." The 22-year-old international player, who joined Turf Moor from Manchester United last year, has until November 28 to respond to the charge. Newly promoted Burnley, who sit 17th in the table with 10 points from 11 games, host third-placed Chelsea on November 22 following the international break. The FA said the alleged incident occurred in the 67th minute.
