Dubai Concludes Golf Season and Launches Sports Integrity Center

Dubai solidifies its position as a global sports capital by hosting the final of the DP World Tour and launching a new center for sports integrity.

The final of the DP World Tour, which began today at The Earth course in Jumeirah Properties, is hosting the world's elite players. According to Nawaf Abdullah, Vice President of Terminals at DP World, investing in golf is a strategic choice for the group. The partnership, which started in 2009, was extended until 2035, confirming the efforts to continue international expansion through this sport.

Hamid bin Dismail, Executive Director of Sustainability for the DP World Tour, confirmed that the tournament continues its global leadership in sustainability by adopting practices in its operations and raising awareness. He noted that the UAE is a world leader in applying these practices, citing the Yas Links golf club's award for Best Golf Club at the European Tour's Global Sustainability Awards.

He added that the tournament's current venue adheres to the highest sustainability standards as part of an ambitious plan to achieve a zero carbon footprint by 2040. «We are focusing on using environmentally friendly components, including lighting networks, with our partners and the public awareness side, aiming to reduce the carbon footprint by 50% by 2030 and reach (0%) carbon emissions by 2040,» he said.

In a move that affirms Dubai's status as a global leader in promoting integrity and governance in sports, the Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA), the world's largest independent and neutral coalition dedicated to enhancing integrity and good governance in the sports sector, officially launched its «SIGA Asia – Dubai» branch.

During the event, held at One Central in Dubai World Trade Centre as part of the «Integrity in Sport Action Month», a memorandum of understanding was signed between SIGA and the International Sports and Entertainment Zone Authority (ISEZA) to establish the new center. This strategic step strengthens Dubai's leading role in developing a unified global model for sports governance and enhancing integrity and sustainability in this vital sector.

The announcement was attended by a host of leaders and decision-makers from sports, government, private, academic, media, and civil society sectors, with the support of Dubai Sports Council, reflecting Dubai's prestigious position as a global hub that combines innovation, governance, and sporting excellence.

Emmanuel Massedó de Maderos, CEO of SIGA and Chairman of the SIGA Asia Board, stated that Asia is the heartbeat of the 21st century, and Dubai and the UAE possess unique attributes that combine vision and integrity. He added: «SIGA Asia will be a center of excellence in governance and sports integrity, which will enhance transparency, attract investment, and open new horizons for a sustainable sporting future».

«Our vision is fully aligned with the UAE's Vision 2040, which is based on innovation, inclusivity, and sustainable progress,» he continued. «We will continue to work on empowering youth and women and enhancing ethical leadership to ensure that sport remains a unifying force and a driver of health, excellence, and prosperity».
