UAE Athletics Championship Awards and First Medals at Paralympic Games

Al Nasr and Abu Dhabi clubs shared the men's overall title, while Sharjah won the women's. Athlete Thani Al Shehi secured the UAE's first medal at the Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai.

Al Nasr Club and Abu Dhabi Athletics Club shared the overall championship shield for the men's category for the 2024-2025 sports season, while Sharjah Women's Sports Club was crowned the overall champion for the women's category. The winners were honored during the annual UAE Athletics Federation gala, held under the patronage and in the presence of Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and Public Security in Dubai and the Honorary President of the Federation, and attended by sports leaders, board members, representatives of government entities, sponsors, and media. The event showcased highlights of the season where UAE athletes achieved remarkable results at regional and international levels, confirming the upward trajectory of athletics in the country. The Federation also dedicated a segment to honoring emerging talents who have proven their presence in local and international competitions. The ceremony also included the recognition of sponsors and partners for their efforts in supporting the Federation's activities, alongside a special tribute to Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim for his dedication and continuous support. In his closing remarks, Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al Mar, President of the Federation, praised the significant improvement in athletes' performance levels throughout the season, commending the great support from the wise leadership and the continuous care provided by Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, which had a clear impact on recent successes. Meanwhile, UAE para-athlete Thani Al Shehi won the first medal for the national team at the ongoing Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai, securing a bronze medal in table tennis (class T3). Al Shehi finished third in the competition, which features 1,500 athletes from 35 countries. The gold medal went to Japanese athlete Kita Gua Yui, while silver was claimed by Yi Wei from Chinese Taipei. The President of the Asian Paralympic Committee, Majeed Al-Aisemi, congratulated the athlete on his efforts, stating that this achievement serves as an important motivation for him to continue developing and achieving future goals. In turn, Ziban Al Mehairi, Secretary-General of the National Paralympic Committee and head of the delegation, affirmed that the accomplishments of para-athletes are a result of the wise leadership's support, which has positively reflected in their presence on the podium. He noted that the table tennis bronze highlights the ongoing commitment to developing the sport and empowering its athletes to achieve distinguished results. The UAE is participating in the Games with 51 male and female athletes competing in eight sports: powerlifting, athletics, badminton, table tennis, swimming, wheelchair basketball, arm wrestling, and powerlifting, among the 11 sports featured in the event.
