The organizing committee of the 'Maydia Dubai School Games' announced the participation of over 3,800 students from public and private schools in the first phase of the event. Organized by the Dubai Sports Council in partnership with 'ESM', the operational partner, the games will conclude with an award ceremony in June. The competition includes football, athletics, fencing, and laser shooting, aimed at promoting a culture of sports in schools and discovering promising talents. Issa Sharif, Head of the Events Department at the Dubai Sports Council, confirmed the event's significant growth, reflecting the council's strategy to foster a motivating environment for school sports. He stated that these championships serve as a foundational platform for scouting and nurturing talent, contributing to the future creation of Olympic champions. Sharif added that the games are a leading platform for preparing future athletes and enhance efforts to develop school sports, which form the base of the sports pyramid. They also provide clubs with an opportunity to select the best individuals and recruit them for their teams across various sports. He wished all participants success. The football matches, held at Al-Nasr Club's grounds, saw 2,556 students representing 225 teams, with 1,440 students from 38 schools reaching the finals in age categories under 9 and under 16 for boys and girls. Fencing competitions took place at James School for Research and Innovation with 58 athletes from 30 schools. Laser shooting competitions, combining running and precision aiming, concluded with 48 students from 15 schools participating. In athletics, 1,146 students competed at Dubai Police Officers Club's track in Al-Jadaf, forming 129 teams, with 600 athletes from 40 schools qualifying for the finals. Events included track races, jumps, and throws.
